Dr. Tis graduated from Rutgers College as a Henry Rutgers Scholar and went on to graduate from Georgetown Medical School in 1994. He completed an orthopaedic residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and research fellowship at Johns Hopkins. He then completed a pediatric fellowship under the Pediatric Orthopaedic and Scoliosis Specialists of San Diego and went on to serve as the Director of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 2004-2008. While in the military, in addition to treating complex pediatric deformities, Dr. Tis developed a sports practice and became expert in treating hip pathology using an arthroscopic approach, multiligamentous knee injuries, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, and a variety of other sports injuries. He also became experienced in the treatment of high energy war wounds and limb defects and served as the Chief of Orthopaedics at Ibn Sina Hospital (“Baghdad ER”) during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dr. Tis is a member of numerous Professional Societies to include the Scoliosis Research Society, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and was listed in Americas Top Doctors in 2007.
