After finishing Medical School at Universidad Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, Dr. Chavez-Valdez did his Pediatric residency at University of Illinois at Chicago and post-doctoral Fellowship in Neonatology- Perinatology and Community Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University-School of Medicine where he was awarded the 2007 Eudowood Board Bauernschmidt Fellowship Award. Since 2005 his research has focused in mechanisms of inflammation and trophism with particular interest in the neurological disorders during the perinatal period. His work has been reported in many national and international meetings and several publications in well-recognized journals. In 2013 he became a Sutland-Pakula Scholar Fellow at the Division of Neonatology.
