Hepatitis

Hepatitis is a general term used to describe any inflammation of the liver which is usually indicated by elevated liver enzymes. There is a wide variety of causes including viral hepatitis (A, B, C, D, E, mono, CMV, herpes, etc), autoimmune hepatitis, metabolic liver disease including Wilson’s disease, and NASH (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease). See more on specific forms of hepatitis in the list above.

In addition to a thorough history and physical examination, you can expect blood and urine tests, special x-rays, and possibly a liver biopsy. If your child is diagnosed with viral hepatitis B or C or autoimmune hepatitis we have special treatment protocols. The management of metabolic diseases is of course dependent on the specific disease.
