Radiothon has raised more than $13.1 million for Hopkins Children’s since it first aired in 1989. This year's event raised more than $810,000 for our patients. The event kicked off on Thursday, Feb. 25, with Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Justin Harper, world-renowned neurosurgeon Ben Carson, M.D., the MIX 106.5 Morning Show team, and Hopkins Children’s patients and their families.

This year’s broadcast included stories of survival against all
odds, cutting-edge medicine, heartbreak and triumph, seen through the
eyes of the patients and families and the doctors and nurses who care
for them. With this year’s Radiothon, Hopkins Children’s also
launched the “Caring for Kids” multimedia campaign to benefit patients
and their families.
“Radiothon is the foundation of our annual fundraising, and MIX
106.5 has been a steadfast partner,” says Hopkins Children’s Director
George Dover, M.D. “This year we are excited to include our Caring for
Kids effort, which significantly expands our ability to reach new
partners and supporters.”
One new supporter is Boost Mobile, which made a $6,000 donation at the
kickoff based on touchdowns scored by Raven Willis McGahee. Last
summer, Boost Mobile pledged to donate $500 to Hopkins Children’s for
every regular season touchdown McGahee scored. Harper represented
McGahee at the kickoff.
“I am so thankful for the partnership I have with Hopkins Children’s
and Boost Mobile,” McGahee said. “I am so blessed to be in a position
to share with others and to be a part of this community. These kids
deserve so much. I set out with a goal of inspiring and empowering
these children, to let them know that their community cares about them
and that they can grow up to achieve their dreams. Little did I know,
they were the ones who would inspire and empower me.”
Dover noted that the groundbreaking medical research and outstanding
patient care that takes place every day at Hopkins Children’s would not
be possible without the generous support from the community.
“All of us here at Hopkins Children’s, from the patients in their
beds, to the nurses caring for them and to the staff in the operating
rooms, thank our supporters and eagerly await this year’s broadcast.”
With support from the Children's Miracle Network (CMN), the MIX 106 Radiothon has raised more than $13.1 million since 1989 for Hopkins Children’s, with a record $1.1 million raised in 2008. Hopkins Children’s is a member of CMN, an organization dedicated to helping raise funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America.
