Dr. Hutton’s research involves improving care at the end of life for children with AIDS, a quantitative and qualitative analysis of medical record and interview data describing the end of life experiences of HIV-infected children from the IPC Clinic. She is also studying patient-provider communication and health care decision-making for minor children with families.  A pilot using “values history” advance directive family interviews in the IPC Clinic is in press and she has submitted a proposal to replicate and extend this work with pediatric oncology patients. She is also designing a quality improvement project to evaluate the impact of initiatives of Harriet Lane Compassionate Care as part of the multi-site EDC project.  Dr. Hutton is also co-investigator PACTG; a member of the protocol team for PACTG 219C, the late outcomes study including quality of life measures
