Dr. Jansson’s research involves the determination of the effects of maternal drug use and methadone maintenance on fetal neurobehavioral development. Current work seeks to determine the pathophysiology of neonatal abstinence syndrome – a constellation of signs and symptoms that occurs in the majority of infants exposed to opioids in utero. Additionally, she serves as a co-investigator in the multisite study of Dr. Hendree Jones, evaluating the safety and efficacy of buprenorphine use for opiate dependency during pregnancy. Other research interests include the determination of methadone and buprenorphine concentrations in breastmilk of women maintained on these medications.
